I met Howard Zinn yesterday!
I ran in to Howard Zinn yesterday as I was doing some last-minute reading outside the history department.
Howard. Zinn.
As in, A People's History of the United States, Howard Zinn. You Can't Be Neutral on a Moving Train, Howard Zinn.
I've been reading this guy's stuff since I was thirteen years old and taking American History with Mr. Glynn Owens back in Austin, Texas. On the very first day of my eighth grade history class, Mr. Owens assigned us Zinn's essay "The Use and Abuse of History", setting the tone for a class that would be, in the words of Paulo Freire, "a constant unveiling of reality." And, Zinn’s writing was central to that process.
