Nocton is unusual in that all it's utilities run overground - well overhead actually. So the whole site is covered by an aerial lattice of electricity conduits, and gas / water pipes lagged with lots of that lovely 1950's wonder material - asbestos!

On the outskirts of the site, and at the end of all these pipes are at least two generator buildings, one hot water storage building, and this boiler house - which is by far the most interesting of the lot...

The title for this shot comes from the idea that although I am fascinated by physics and science in general, I must have some sort of algebraic dyslexia as I've never understood the formulae surrounding the Fundamental Laws of Thermodynamics...

The first cut won't hurt at all... by Compound Eye - in Practical Photography now!

The first cut won't hurt at all...

...the second only makes you wonder.
The third will have you on your knees...

Operating Theatre No.2 at RAF Nocton has been so utterly stripped that little evidence of it's purpose remains, although the whole surgical block still exudes a cold, clinical feel.

In the heart of 'The Zone' you might just find your innermost desires, but be careful what you wish for...

I am often conscious of seeing & wanting to portray compositions as if they were stills or sets from some surreal movie. This shot then is most definately tinged with shades of Andrei Tarkovsky's minimal, post apocalyptic masterpiece 'Stalker'.

A few more steps, one last turn, the answer to your questions await you, but dare you enter..?

Vented Spleens this way... by Compound Eye - in Practical Photography now!

Vented Spleens this way...

Upon seeing a door like this, you'd be forgiven for imagining wall to wall jars of unidentified pickled organs & appendages beyond. Unfortunately this was not so,- the room resembling something like an 'O' Level Chemistry lab that had seen far better days... Lots of power points and gas taps for bunsen burners, but not much else.

At least the entrance remains dramatic and evocative. Again, I was lucky with the interplay of light and dark gifted to me by a glorious Autumn morning.

A pill for your ills... by Compound Eye - in Practical Photography now!

A pill for your ills...

Looking towards the dispensary door at RAF Nocton Hospital.

There is no use fighting it,- Nocton is all corridors!

Urbex corridors have been done to death and then some. All you can really do is take the shot, and just try to do it that bit better than the rest... I think the God of Dramatic Lighting was on my side this time.
