Solar Eclipse

It is nice to be back to the regular routine after the last few hectic days.

This shot of the solar eclipse took some effort: sun was playing hide and seek; I was not in my home ground; we were on the road and not in our car. But it all came out well finally.

We had travelled quite a bit during the eclipse and I was able to catch the scene just as the day ended. I had almost given up when we reached the town we had camped in, but thanks to my wife's prodding we rushed to the town beach for a last attempt. Boy, was it worth it! I am told solar eclipse during sunset is rare.

Thanks to Steve (skyburst) for the encouragement to try the shot.

WOW! WOW! WOW! This is incredible. I don't think that I have seen anything like this. Did I say wow!

You did, Jim - four times. And each well-said. How about adding a well-deserved BRAVO on top of those WOWs, because *this* is a stunning shot, Pandiyan! Just beautiful!

  3. Jimmy_Joe (93 months ago | reply)

Sorry, I forget the bravo thing. BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO ENCORE!

Wow. Pandiyannnnn. Holygoodness gracious this is brilliant! I want to sort of print it, hehe, so well done! :-) Great stuff, proud indeed! Just for the sake of it: Bravo!

  5. mutbka (93 months ago | reply)

Very unusual indeed. It's great that you managed to catch it so beautifully! These dark clouds add a lot to the picture.

nice shot, did u use filters?

  7. Pandiyan (93 months ago | reply)

Thanks, my friends. Though it was a nice break for us, it is great to be back and meeting all of you again in the Flickr Land.

No filters for the shot. Just underexposed and colours set a bit on the warmer side.

    Nice shot.
Where did you catch the solar eclipse?
Was it just a partial eclipse?

  11. aurora_cb (93 months ago | reply)

    Really beautiful.
I suppose it's an annular eclipse.

  12. Aarathi (93 months ago | reply)

i've never seen a gradation on the sun itself, apart from such a brilliant shot of the eclipse. I have to join Jim and tschopper on the WOW and BRAVO! :)

    Welcome back Pandiyan.
I am so glad you caught the eclipse it is without a doubt excellent. I was going to Bravo you but seems I was beaten to the post ;-)
This is a pretty rare capture as you know with your permission I am going to download it and show it to some of my astro friends, we unfortunately couldnt see it at all.

Welcome back Pandiyan - it's good to see you around, I only 'got back' properly yesterday evening so we're both catching up!

This is quite some re-entry into the Flickr world - I like it very much but it's obviously even more exceptional than I can appreciate because it is clear that grown men are mumbling while they pick their jaws up off the floor and re-connect them to their skulls, around this picture. Something to do with 'very rare and unusual' methinks - if you're not very pleased with yourself for having got it yet, then after the coming stampede I suspect you will be!
    :-))

Wow! That is for the response from you all. I had a very bad hangover this morning - not from the spirits, I don't take them, but from a flight back at such an ungodly hour of 2 am and it was a hopping flight to boot. Any way this response picked me up in no time. Great to see you all.

Tom, Jimmy, Wolfy, mtbka, Photofiddler and Kathy - I am grateful.

Aarthy, Steve & satosphere - You are welcome to use the picture anyway you like. I have made the hires version available. It was taken at 18.02 hrs (+5.30 GMT) on Oct 3, 2005 at Alleppey, Kerala, Southern India.

Aarthy (of Canada) and Aarathi (of Coimbatore) - Say hi to each other. This is just ensure there is no comedy of errors; if anything I say doesn't make sense, perhaps, it is meant for the other!

auora_cb - We had only a partial eclipse.

Tracy - Is solar eclipse just a 'man thing'?

tawfique - It is great to see you get back!

Pandiyan this is a comment from my best friend Alan who is an astronomer in the UK of some years experiance:

    "Dear Pandiyan,
this is undoubtably one of the best and very rare Sunset partial eclipse photographs I have seen in my time as an amature viewer of the heavens. Steve is going to print this at A3 resolution with your permission for me, and it will take pride of place on the wall of my observatory, thankyou for allowing Steve to show this marvelous photograph to myself and my friends whose feedback I will pass on to Steve, so that he may give their response's to you.

My best regards to you sir,
    Alan."

Pandiyan, It is a great photo of the Solar Eclipse. On October 3, 2005 I was at N Delhi in the fag end of my North India Tour. Though I remembered the solar eclipse in the morning, I totally forgot about it during the day when we were roaming around Delhi. Great Capture, Pandiyan

Really nicely done. I've seen one total solar eclipse, way back in 1970. It, too, involved extensive travel and a good deal of effort to get to a site where the eclipse would be perfect. Regrettably, I had only a simple 50mm range finder camera at the time. You've inspired me to see if I can extract the eclipse from those old photos.

I think I can say that eclipses are not just a man thing by how I felt when I saw this shot. Thrilling and majestic! Those inky clouds increase the drama, too.

brilliantly captured...In delhi it was around 5:00 pm ,I was in a presentation but I ran out with a floppy paper.

Congratulations on a very nice capture. I envy you for having clear skies (well, nearly!) that day. Where I live it was all cloudy and we missed what turned out to be a grand spectacle for many along the path of the eclipse.

  31. Pandiyan (93 months ago | reply)

Thanks DCVoyager. I would be delighted see your photos of old. Must have been tough those days unless you had a highend camera

Thanks Swamy. In Chennai, where I live people could not see at all. I happened to be Kerala that day!
