This is cricket and that is not...

Just missing the stumps
bookie in the making :)
LOL...whats he doing here!
This is cricket and that is not... by Pandiyan.
Casual, carefree and on the beach. Just like they do in the Caribbeans.

But it is worrying the way the so called gentleman's game has grown. Match fixing, madness and even murder. In many countries including mine it is not a game any more. It is war. Players are hapless gladiators. They need police protection when the team loses. Madness, indeed.

Of course, Cricket in this picture is very different. It is nice to play on the beach with a coir mat and a tennis ball.

But then should it be this casual? Such a flamboyant stroke from the bastman and see where the ball is! It just missed the stumps. Look at our friend fielding in forward short leg; juggling the cell phone and hoping not to get hit. And the one in silly point. No, he is from the secret service. He is a fielder too.

All in all great fun. Wish international games could be as fun. But realistically speaking that would be a silly point indeed!

(For all my non-cricketing friends - Cricket has many silly terms. Square leg, mid off, leg glance, leg gully, maiden over and a lot more. Just like baseball or rugby)

Lovely carefree photo and I couldn't agree more. Money has ruined this sport as it has many others. Teach the children the joy of the game and there might be some hope for the future.

Well said Pandiyan. Even though I am a die-hard crazy cricket fan, my interest towards this game is slowly diminishing, thanks to our beloved team who mint more cash than playing for the country's pride. I'd rather watch a match like this on the beaches!

Fantastic capture, sorry about inserting the notes. I couldn't resist it.

I miss those days of playing cricket on the public playgrounds, beaches and large terraces of apartments. Nowadays all that time is swallowed up in TV, work and books.

I wish life could be different.

Thanks friends. I ama glad this picture gave some of you a nostalgic trip back to your childhood days.

Kris, if you say so...

Dilip, you should be more sporting :)

Lynne, you are The Teacher. You are very right. Journey is the reward.

Abhinav, how many windows you have broken? I have done a few!

McGun, I don't whether we can blame the players as a group. They are product of our society. And your notes on the picture are apt!
