Aurora Indialis!

Aurora Indialis! by Pandiyan.
I have heard of Northern and Southern lights. But in Chennai, India which is not far from the equator something like this! I still do not fully understand Aurora Borealis but I found this splash of colours over the clouds pretty intriguing.

It was tough with my camera - poor resolution and heavy noise. I underexposed drastically. I have tried to make the colours look as natural as possible though the clouds in front appear too dark.

EDIT: Experts tell me this is cloud iridiscence. For more info, follow the link given by Pink Pepper Photo down below.

And a special thanks to Pink Pepper Photo. The link was very interesting and useful. Of course, I knew it was not Aurora and I used the term more in fun; but I did not know the phenomenon is called cloud iridescence. Thanks again.

GRUFlick  Pro User  says:

These rare clouds, sometimes called mother-of-pearl clouds, are 15 - 25km (9 -16 miles) high in the stratosphere and well above tropospheric clouds. They are iridescent but higher and rarer than ordinary iridescent clouds. They occur mostly but not exclusively in polar regions and in winter at high latitudes, Scandinavia, Alaska, Northern Canada.

They shine brightly in high altitude sunlight up to two hours after ground level sunset or before dawn. Their unbelievably bright iridescent colours and slow movement relative to any lower clouds make them an unmistakable and unforgettable sight.

I think those are Nacreous Clouds you have there... which would be strange close to the Equator... Usually old happens at high Latitude places at very very cold temperatures... it's tiny ice crystals diffracting sunlight. WEIRD! Very very cool though, I've lived in the far North all my life and haven't ever seen them.
