Aren't those old, Spanish moss draped live oaks great? These are near Charleston SC.

go wild -- Yes, these live oaks were commonly planted on plantations in the 1700's and 1800's. But they do grow naturally in the southeast US, especially in the coastal plain. They do have that habit of the branches spreading horizontally in the wild, though not quite as spectacularly as when they are planted and have more space to spread out. When I have seen them growing naturally, they are growing in a mixed stand of live oaks, pines and various other trees and shrubs.
