Old Fly served in the First Indiana Cavalry under Captain James Penn Bennett, who served as the Director of the Working Men's Institute from 1848-1850, and from 1853-1855.

All of the paste papers cockle as they dry, and have to be ironed to flatten them out. The thicker the application of paste, the more they cockle as they dry; this is an extreme example of one that had a LOT of paste applied.
