Silkstone Barbies are a separate line of Barbie produced by Mattel. Their premise is they are a fashion model line and are much pricier than your average Barbie (which is why I only have 1 at this point).

For that reason, the Silkstones (along with the Vintage Reproductions) are marketed at adult collectors and not at children. The new Barbie for girls is totally skanked out and trying to complete with the horrid Bratz dolls.

The Silkstones have a completely different look...the double cateye eyeliner...the mole...the pointier nose and the tiny bow lips. Their bodies are also longer and they have a separate clothing line to match since regular Barbie clothes won't fit (although MOST collectors, including myself, do not take them out of the box to preserve their value).

It's really a ridiculous hobby....but I can't help myself. I only collect the Silkstones, Vintage Repo's and dolls from 1985 back....I don't do the Christmas dolls and I don't collect MOST of the pop culture dolls, unless I find them really appealing (i.e. I have the Legally Blonde pop culture doll).
