Lady who?

Lady who?

Model: Karolina
Location: Studio77 Ottawa

Another photo from my shoot earlier this week with Karolina.

Here she was channeling a certain Lady...

While processing the photos this morning I was surprised at how many of them I really loved, because I'm usually my own harshest critic. Karolina was that fantastic!

Thanks again to Fernando for inviting me along!

I must say I feel so blessed to be surrounded by such supportive individuals as I am. I have only recently begun working with models other than family and friends. I thought it would be difficult to find models willing to work with someone inexperienced like myself but this has not been the case. What has floored me even more though is how supportive and helpful the local photographers have been. I took this photo at a shoot last night with a very popular local photographer named Fernando. Check out his steam. This guy is not only an extremely talented photographer he has a very special touch with the models. The models love to work with him. Since the models are the clients and his clients are so happy that is all you need to know!

He generously allowed me to join him as his assistant and second shooter. Although I was technically the assistant he never once treated me as such and always treated me as an equal and continually complimented me on my own work. A true gentleman and very supportive man. Thanks so much Fern.

Karolina was fantastic. We had actually met last weekend to discuss a separate project we are going to work on together. We really hit it off at the meeting. We found out that not only did we see eye to eye on the main project, we had another idea in common as well. I am looking forward to working with her some more. Although you may not see it in this photo, what I really loved about her is her willingness to act out in front of the camera and no fear of looking awkward. I think we have some really interesting shots and you will see some more in the coming weeks.

The moment I met her I was drawn to her eyes so I just had to have a portrait to show off her eyes. Also, I loved her ring so I wanted to make use of that.

So much fun!

JJ Grey & Mofro

JJ Grey & Mofro

JJ Grey & Mofro played Ottawa on Jan 24th 2012 and all I got was this photo...

It was my 3rd time seeing them live in Ottawa. I had made my way to the front of the stage to get some great photos, when I was suddenly told by someone claiming to represent the band saying I would not be allowed to use my camera. This came as a bit of a surprise since I had photographed the band on both their prior shows in Ottawa, and had shared my photos with the band to use on the fan sites and Facebook, etc...

In fact going over to Facebook tonight to comment on the show I was greeted by one of my photos showing up as the 1st photo on their page.

I don't know why bands make the stupid "no pro camera" rules. The only camera I carry is considered pro by them. Do they prefer having crappy photos of them floating around the internet? I never tried to sell them photos I took of them or use them in any way other than to promote the band. The band itself was making use of the previous photos I took (with a pro camera).

Very odd decision...

Certainly this is not the only band to make this decision, but given that this is one of the bands that specifically has used my photos in the past and continues to use them is a little baffling.

There were only three new dogs that needed their photos taken today at the shelter so I decided to spend a little time with a friend.

This is "Holly", the dog we fostered for a few days at Christmas. She is doing very well. She was looking very strong and healthy and she loved being out in the snow with me, even if it was only for about 20 min.

Model: Nadia

Another day, another shot of Nadia. :-)

I really liked the way the icy tones worked with Nadia. I finished several photos this way.

I haven't had another shoot since this one but I am meeting with a model this weekend to discuss a project I have planned that would be different from what I have done in the past.
