Sandhill Cranes fly out of a marsh at dawn, off to forage and feed in farmers' fields. They will find waste grain from the recent harvest and reciprocate with nitrogen deposits. I thought I might miss the light here. When the cranes started flying, the sun was still buried deep in a cloud/fog bank. Then slowly it burned through the layers, and cranes began to pass by above and below. I missed a couple of shots when my autofocus was fooled by the bright background object. Then I locked the focus on the flying cranes... and all went well. Last Mountain Lake National Wildlife Refuge, Saskatchewan.
