Why do we go to concerts? I think one of the reasons is for the crowd. We think, I wonder who else likes this stuff? Every form and type and instance of public entertainment, be it a rock concert or an opera or a college basketball game has a unique audience, and it's fun to see how they're different.

Tori Amos's crowd has always been largely female and feminist (both men and women), with a strong lesbian presence. Tori has a faerie following, so the garb is always entertaining; you always see at least one pair of angel wings. I would say the average age was 25-35. At 47, maybe 1/15 people were my age, and I didn't see many teenagers (except my daughter!).
