Neuengamme Memorial

Neuengamme Memorial

The Neuengamme concentration camp had detailed overview of the dead, all of which have been written on endless rolls of paper hanging on large, bright-red walls at the memorial site.

The camp itself was not particular infamous, but was linked to large parts of the Hamburg war effort during the late 40's. Among other things, it was related to the Cap Arcona disaster.

Most of the camp was demolished after the war, like most other post WW2-sites, much to the disappointment of many with historical interest. Not much remains here, and the site itself has been restored and rebuilt a number of times, thus increasing the distance to the camp's original, historical impact.

Tempelhof Runway

Tempelhof Runway

Tempelhof was closed in 2008, shortly after my last visit. This means that the gargantuan area of runways and taxi strips has now been opened to the public.

Standing right in the middle of a runway was a more curious experience that I'd imagined. It's really big!
