Living by the East River

my contribution

This collaged painting study is dominated by this pano of the Manhattan Bridge and contains several unpublished pano pieces of the nearby residential neighborhood. As I have done for the other painting studies, I made many different treatments on separate layers, divided the image into 100 pieces, picked the best looking layer for each of the pieces.

I'm considering setting this up as a collaborative painting project. I'd get 100 stretched canvasses, one for each grid piece, divide them between myself and several other painters, paint them separately, assemble them on site for an exhibition.

I'm thinking of designing it so the overall width would be about 18 feet. Definitely gallery art.

reminds me of those puzzles that are solved by pushing little tiles around.

Reid - since this is divided into 100 pieces, I think I want to have it painted on 100 canvasses, ideally, by 100 different painters. At least, if I could get many different painters to do a few canvasses each, we should be able to get an interesting collab.

yes, it is a grand plan, hopefully not grandiose. not at all limited geographically, we'd need to have painters from all over.

I'll create a forum for discussing and solving all logistic and artistic problems, painters paint their pieces where and when they are able. when complete, we all ship them to the exhibition site and share in any resulting benefits.

all details to be worked out in online community discussion.

i'm in p0ps. you could even include flickr photogs by allowing some giclee prints on canvas of photos they take that support the square they are creating. or wha' evuh.

i hope you will go over that again for folks over in the network. and let us learn how to do it. on this project i'm lead, i can make the call, if it's lively, if it looks like a human you'd like to meet put it there for a good reason, i'm good with it - it's all painting to me, each collaborator can mix or match methods of getting an image on canvass. all fair in Art.
