Shift It

Shift It by Owen B..
One of those moments where I had to grab my camera quick. I saw the sign on a bus stop promoting using bicycles to get around London, with a woman waiting for the bus, and then I looked around for traffic that might get in the way and saw a guy on a bike coming my way. Priceless timing! :)

Owen - you are incredible. And that's a pretty slow shutter speed to handhold in the heat of the moment like that. Do you have an IS lens?

Blimey sometimes I just don't get the point -Digitally processed to mimic the 'crossprocessing' style of film development. - what's that all about? And a random bus stop posted to GWL? Ditto.

Well, Alastair, I'll answer both those points. The easiest one to answer is - genuine error posting to Guess Where London - I find the drop down menu method to post to groups a bit fiddly sometimes on my laptop trackpad and that was a result of mis-clicking.

As for digitally processing a picture to mimic the cross-processing style of film development being, as you apparently believe, a pointless exercise - I wholeheartedly disagree. That's exactly the same as saying that turning digital photographs into B&W conversions to mimic B&W film is pointless as well.

I happen to like the colour effects of 'cross processing' film. However, I don't have a film camera. I have a digital camera, so I process digitally. This shot I processed to mimic the 'cross processing' look because I liked the colours. I would have thought that to be obvious. Of course, opinions are subjective. If you don't like the colours, that's fine. :)

Whether you 'get the point' comes down to whether you 'get' the notion of processing your digital photographs in the first place, I'd have thought.

Know what you mean about the dropdown - hope they improve that sometime.

Never said it was pointless - just that I didn't get the point. Mind you, I always thought crossprocessing was a bit poncey anyway. So a digital technique to mimic a chemical one that I've never got on with doesn't really float my boat.

As for B&W, I don't see the point of that either in the digital world. It never has the luminence of real mono film work and seems to just ape a ... (contd p94)

Well, you have your opinions, I have mine. Thanks for following up, although it seems to stop just as you're getting to the good bit.

Like I say, it's all down to personal taste. You find it poncey, I like the colours.

I have just been going through your photostream and can't believe how incredible your work is. I love the cross processing you do and the amazing colors you get.
