How do politicians remain in power? Money, money, money. Oh, there are additional ways. Ambition has no boundaries. However, when power comes before public service, it serves only one person, not the rest of us.
It's important to be able to judge a politician's words and deeds with the context that is political survival. Judge the work by how it benefits the country and his or her constituents. Be wary of hyperbole. One of the new golden rules of political discourse seems to be: if you say an untruth over and over people will believe it. We are smarter than that and we owe ourselves to look carefully at the issues and to separate the rhetoric from reality.
