Emerge Exposed
![]() The panel & gathering crowd.
And for those who may have missed this fantastic panel, I have included a "transcript" straight from my Twitter feed: UV, heat, humidity (ie, Washington, DC)... these things are very much not good for prints. As much as collectors worry about how long a print will last, you should hear photographers & printers talk... I come from France, and so my question sounds even more learned on account of my heavy accent. Street photography = film noir, which is not a genre. Was social/technical trend that told story that ended about the mid-70s. Is making something that "looks interesting" the same as actually interesting? Editions = marketing term, but has been necessary one that has brought needed acceptance by museums, galleries, etc. Editions more than 5-7 (for some collectors) is now considered career suicide. Cost is tied to editions. "there is a... stench, surrounding commercial photography" on the devaluation of photography by museums "the fact is, photography is always strange" "the power of photography is... the capturing of a tiny slice of time forever" "Photography has always been a fictional medium" photography is supposed to be reality, but it never has been (see M. Brady/Civil War) "and then I had 2 gallons of Jello to eat" - imagined, not overheard at Emerge Exposed "if you have more than one thing, you are a collector" "all the stuff you would Google now, there were actual people to answer your questions." on the changing community of photography. "I collect art because: 1. To support artists 2. Asthetically pleasing 3. Create discussion" "Be warned, collecting photogaphy is addictive..." Is photography art? "Obsessional and/or slightly unstable photography collection is the most wonderful" Made it to Inside the Actor's Studio (for photographers). Btw, @akkleis has no signal and is freaking out.
