Emerge Exposed

Emerge Exposed by Brian Knight Photography.
The panel & gathering crowd.

And for those who may have missed this fantastic panel, I have included a "transcript" straight from my Twitter feed:

UV, heat, humidity (ie, Washington, DC)... these things are very much not good for prints.

As much as collectors worry about how long a print will last, you should hear photographers & printers talk...

I come from France, and so my question sounds even more learned on account of my heavy accent.

Street photography = film noir, which is not a genre. Was social/technical trend that told story that ended about the mid-70s.

Is making something that "looks interesting" the same as actually interesting?

Editions = marketing term, but has been necessary one that has brought needed acceptance by museums, galleries, etc.

Editions more than 5-7 (for some collectors) is now considered career suicide. Cost is tied to editions.

"there is a... stench, surrounding commercial photography" on the devaluation of photography by museums

"the fact is, photography is always strange" "the power of photography is... the capturing of a tiny slice of time forever"

"Photography has always been a fictional medium" photography is supposed to be reality, but it never has been (see M. Brady/Civil War)

"and then I had 2 gallons of Jello to eat" - imagined, not overheard at Emerge Exposed

"if you have more than one thing, you are a collector"

"all the stuff you would Google now, there were actual people to answer your questions." on the changing community of photography.

"I collect art because: 1. To support artists 2. Asthetically pleasing 3. Create discussion"

"Be warned, collecting photogaphy is addictive..."

Is photography art?

"Obsessional and/or slightly unstable photography collection is the most wonderful"

Made it to Inside the Actor's Studio (for photographers). Btw, @akkleis has no signal and is freaking out.

Nice! If I watched you Twitter stuff during the show, is that as good as having a Twitter account of my own? You forgot to Twitter about how Max had to play the "Telephone" game when he asked his question.

Great panel though! There's a lot of knowledge packed into those brians. I could listen to the four of them talk (and pour each other water) all day long.

Ha, the water thing was kind of funny. It must have been hot under those lights.

Glad you all liked my running commentary. Despite what Old Man Stewart might think I've heard that Twittering during a talk can actually help with later discussions.

Max, watching me Tweet is sort of the same, but no, not really. The telephone game question thing was funny though, especially when they could hear, like every other person's question. Maybe it was just a frequency thing.

The panel really was great this year. When's the next one?!

I disagree with Old Man Stewart on that one too - during talks at a recent WebWise conference, the whole audience was Twittering and otherwise communicating in a sort of "back channel," commenting and raising questions, and either during or at the end of each session, the comments were incorporated or addressed in the most streamlined way we've ever seen - it was a great tool for getting a crowd engaged, rather than distracting them as many think. Ok sorry for the nerd rant.
