Toby in TattonLastly we spend an afternoon wandering in Tatton Park, letting Toby wander, both on and off his reins, on the grass and gravel tracks and huge fallen logs. It was an afternoon like those I remember from being small and we arrived home exhausted but happy and full of fresh air and Walker's crisps...

Defeated conkersI skewered four with a knitting needle, threaded them onto string and Jacob, mum and I had the longest conker tournament in our combined memories; it took more than 4 hours over 2 nights to declare Jacob the winner of both bouts ;)

Jacob and conkersA walk home from school took us under a massive horse chestnut tree and through one of the biggest conker hauls I have never seen, so we collected handfuls; big fat ones and teeny, tiny glossy ones. Apparently is is against the school rules to play conkers now so they are not picked up anymore. Back in my mother's or my sister and I's childhoods a tree like that would have been stripped bare within hours in search of the hugest conker in the playground but now they lie on the grass and rot. Sad really!
