Mountain Ibex - Chamonix, French Alps

    Newer Older

I am not known for wildlife photography but when those two adolescent Ibex´s climbed a large boulder in-front of my while hiking down from Lac Blanc in the French Alps I could not resist photographing them. Indeed it was the most exciting time I have had photographing for a long while. They were only 5-10m away from me and seeing them practicing their fighting skills for about half an hour on the rocks was quite the show.

Wow, great timing! This frozen moment makes me regret the moment of violence that comes afterward. See, I would have probably taken the shot of the impact and posted that, and I would have been wrong. It's the anticipation of the moment that works so well here. You almost cringe at the inevitable collision. As I heard the announcer at a monster truck rally say, "You paid for the whole seat, but you'll only need the edge!"
