Silicon Patterns - Gunnuhver at Reykjanes, Iceland

    Newer Older

Time of endless soft light at night has arrived in Iceland. I went to the off the beaten track Gunnuhver geothermal area. I am still discovering the complex scenery at this location as the highly active area guards its secrets carefully with thick steam fog. Only when the wind direction is correct can you approach the right spots.

The lower part of this geothermal area has alot of mud pools rich with silicon which gives them this blue tone. I am not sure why there is so much silicon there but I suspect the nearby geothermal plant which dumps its waste into a silicon blue pool nearby to be the source of this.
