No, I was not out there again, this is a shot from couple of weeks
ago, last time the Aurora was active.
This shot was experimental in the way to shoot a HDR scene without using multiple exposures. The artificial lights on the house was way to strong compared to the Aurora and the foreground light. I therefore placed my finger infront of the lens blocking the house. I moved the finger abit up and down to create softer edges and finally I pulled my finger away couple of seconds before the shutter closed. Vola, the high dynamic scene was contained within a single exposure.
The remains of my finger can be seen as the sky is much darker above the house than on other parts of the image. Actually it took a few tries to get it right. In the -15°C my finger got pretty frozen but it was worth it.
