Kaho'olawe Hawaii

These pictures were taken on our restoration trip to the Island of Kaho'olawe of Hawaii Nation

The government use this island for target practice for over 50 years detonating hundreds of thousands of ordinances in cluding simulated atomic bombs. because of the heavy misuse of this island paradise the natural vegetation has been almost completely demolished leading to extreme erosion striping the island of all its top soil turning it into a barren mountain.

Kaho'olawe was seen my by the US govenment to be a unused uninhabited island that they could destroy with out consequence. The truth is the Island of Kaho'olawe was the center of many religious sites and was used as a starting place for sea navigations. at the very top is a place called the Navigators chair. from this point in the middle of all the Hawaiian Islands you can see all other islands and the channels between them.
