    This was such a great find by Kurt. He has an excellent eye for photography and nature. We are very surprised by, and pleased with, the amazing attention that this discovery has gotten. Many people have wondered why we did not name the species after Kurt and the simple reason is that it is a convention in taxonomy not to name a species after yourself when you are the author (kind of a really bad scientific faux pas). We thought that being an author would be a greater honour than simply naming the species after Kurt, as he was a key part of the discovery.

    Also, this species will forever be known in the scientific literature in its complete form as Semachrysa jade Winterton, Geuk and Brooks, 2012. The authorities and year are always given when this species is referred to in scientific papers.
