untitled bowl

untitled bowl by EricGjerde.
work in progress shots of an untitled piece. It's a bowl, which is a bit of a departure for me. This is the first work sketch, done at a smaller size than the larger final piece.

This is amazing Eric. It combines many techniques and is deliciously organic.

Nice! The top shape looks like a star with curved edges, which I always love! You are planning more of this type of folding sometime soon, right?

Very cool-I have folded a few simple bowls, but nothing like this. Great use of your curved surfaces segments. The thing that bugs me is the inside of it-I guess it is that it doesn't lie flat to the inside of the bowl. Could you squash/spread sink the little points that stick up around the bottom to make them flat(ter)?

This isn't the final product - it's still sitting on my shelf here waiting to be shaped. However, I went through a lot of different choices for how to arrange the interior pleats, and I liked the way this came together; the curved areas are something I find aesthetically pleasing. I suppose that I like the fact it makes it a truly non-functional vessel.

More than likely it will get a bit more shaping, the idea is to have the sides curve in a bit more, which should lend something close to a curved bottom surface of the bowl. I have to find a proper glue to attach the two ends, first. (I know people don't like glue but there's no other good way to hold this in shape, and I don't feel like mucking with the symmetry to find some sort of paper locking mechanism. That idea was discarded from almost the beginning. I prefer clean lines over purity here.)

@Ben: it is much more star shaped now that I've mucked with it further, and the larger model is 2.5x bigger, which lends itself much more to wetfolding and curve modeling.

thanks for the comments guys, it's not quite done yet but I'm glad you like it so far.

That is really neat ! You should make a Vessel Sink out of it.
