A suggestion if I may, Ann: Prefocus the lens using the little focusing tabs on the rails and the rangefinder - say at 2 meters, so that objects at 2 meters are in focus, and the rangefinder agrees. Then looking through the rf, walk up to people, point and shoot hand held.

Anyway, that's what i'll do when I get my Speed Graphic. I am planning a series of street portraits.

WOW, It's the 'reconaissance lens' ! I've seen two of these Graflex/Aero combo/kits "for sale" and you got one! Did you buy it as a kit? Or did Grimes do the work for you? The fingerprint on these lenses paired to the Graphic are totally unique. I'm sure you saw the photojournalistic work of David Burnett.

I can hardly wait!!!!

*Zaphod - you make it sound so easy! Thank you for the recommendation! I can't wait to really get some practice with this camera! And WOW, your combination is gorgeous!!

*kindalight - oh wow!! Enjoy!!

*Evidence me so - thank you!

*Alexey - it feels like a Christmas day! ;D

*tomasito1968 - you too? Fabulous! I may have to ask questions... :)

*Salvatore Piermarini fotografo - It's a really nice one! I'm so happy about it! Thank you! :)

*Duncan Allen - oh wow - a Linhof! Everything that's old is new again, isn't that so?

*r.yen - thank you! Actually I do shoot polaroid (I have 2 polaroid cameras, a polaroid back for my hasselblad and now the bad for this camera - - I think I've been 'saving' my film though, since polaroid is no longer. (Positive thoughts that someone will change all that!)

*Jannx - YES! the Aero-Ektar is a World War II era lens used for aerial assessment of bomb damage. Mine is from 1944 but I am fortunate to have acquired one that was "brand new' AND had already been fitted with a lensboard for a Speed Graphic. So no need to do any modifications!

For anyone unfamiliar, since they served a single purpose, reconnaissance from the air during WWII, they don't have shutters and simply focused on infinity. Taken off the K-24 military camera for which they were designed allows them to be fitted to a large format cameras that has its own focal plane shutter. Aero Ektars have verrry shallow depth of field, which for anyone familiar with my shooting style is right up my alley! I just recently learned about David Burnett, but I've been fascinated by this lens ever since I discovered it through a local photographer who visited and shared his work with my local camera club. I was utterly inspired and started to research and then to keep my eyes open for good deals! It took a lonnng time, but my wait is over!

*Xenotar28 - I am totally inspired to master it like my zeiss lenses and hasselblad! :)

*Joe - Thank you so much! I cannot wait to try it out!

*alvaro00022 - hi! The ubiquitous bathroom selfie, I guess! ;))

*elyziumfields - lucky for me, I roll out of bed and am surrounded by ocean views. Not too much lugging around required! :)

*franco.brivio - hi! I am very much! :D

*Sadferret - okay, let's face it, if I looked really bad, it would not be uploaded to flickr, but I was lucky that I got to share ;-p

*Tricky4x - yes!!! Whoo-hooo!

*Kent - thank you so much! I have so much film and dark room chemicals to transport! Hah!

I so miss my Linhof, it was a Colour Kardan 45.

I used to be in the photographic trade and we bought ex government war department surplus. We had a lot of K24's that shot on roll film 5"x5" images. You don't need depth of field for reconnaissance images just a flat field. lenses from most of the 1960s through to 70's aircraft cameras have the a similar effect.

Whilst not as many around now they do turn up in surplus stores very cheap. Often just the lenses as the bodies are sold for scrap metal.
