I am empty inside...

I am empty inside
maybe another way of saying "I'm empty inside"
I am empty inside... by Orhan Tsolak.
Someone wrote there, next to the man's head "I am empty inside". Unfortunately though the writing is not very visible. This is just one of the myriad new housing developments in central London, aimed mainly at yuppies, who can afford them. And these houses are beyond the means of the working class Londoners, as the average house in London now is around 300.000 pounds! Not only that, with the have-s moving in, the have-nots are moving out of central London, with a result whole "fashionable" areas being gentrified

It's something to aspire to Orhan - nothing wrong with being empty inside if you have a well-cut shirt... it's the shirts you look back on at the end of your life you know ;-)

Love the contrast with the decidedly unyuppy cyclist being 'ridden' out of town.

maybe... but better than an abandoned, derelict building though surely? More social housing and a move away from the stigma of renting would help I feel...

In İstanbul, the trend is about the opposite. The have-s (including well-cut shirts) are tempted to move to the luxury housing complex with security guards at the gate that are being built within the first periphery rather than the center.

and about the pic, I agree Benjamin; the cyclist makes the shot.

~~~ Benjamin ~~~ . Nice one :) Don't tell me you are wearing anything under your shirt (like those shirts basketball players wear, but the white ones -don't know what they are called in English) It is a fashion faux pas you know :) But with me is not the shirt, but the t-shirts really (shirts are hard work, ironing and all that). And you are right, it is them that we will look back and remember at the end of our lives. I had one which I wore in my workplace few years ego, which said on the chest, as a logo "Make Managers History. :) (after Make Poverty History campaign) That didn't go down very well with the manager there, but all his subordinates loved it, and it is one to remember for sure :) Many thanks for your comment.
~~~ doctian ~~~ Many thanks for reading the caption, and your comment. Captions can sometimes can easily change the meaning of a photo, I think "less is more" there, as it should be the photo really telling the story, but in this case a bit of explanation was necessary.

~~~ Homemade ~~~ You definitely have a point there. It is a difficult one. Sure, It is better than abandoned and derelict, but on Thames riverside, (more on the West side, from Battersea and further west) now they are so many identikit housing developments, the architecture of some of them makes you wish they had let place as it was. Now if those house were social housing, fair enough. But they are not. The government seems all but abandoned the idea of social housing really, so now it is all down to the private developers, raising the money, and selling the houses to those who can afford it, and we end up with places poor people are practically excluded, in the sense, yes they can go there for a walk, and enjoy the views, but they can't afford the restaurants or cafes. The Docklands has to be a prime example of this I think. In Tower Hamlets and Southwark, just few hundred meters from the Thames, some of the places look like ghettos, (the housing estates) in comparison to riverside fashionable developments, so people almost live parallel lives there, but totally different environments. So the problem with housing in London, is not just gentrification, and is the ghettoisation of whole communities as well. And I should know really. I live in Bermondsey, and it's been happening before my eyes in the past 10 years. Opps, I got carried away, very long reply there :)
~~~ *surfer rosa* ~~~ I think that is the other problem with big cities, inner cities being abandoned, with people who can afford it moving to the suburbs of the city, I think that is also prevalent in the US. In London, we don't really have the suburbia, American style. But most of the housing I have been talking above is gated housing of course, with CCTV's, some with receptions, and private car parks, and the target buyers the people in the billboard there. Only the uber-wide plasma screen TV missing there. Once they got that too, and together with the online supermarket shopping, "happiness" is achieved! :) I was lucky with the cyclist there. He came in the right time, but I did wait for few minutes, and he made the picture for me indeed :)

~~~ Dreamer7112 ~~~ Many thanks!
thanks for the comprehensive reply! You're right of course, its the mix of social & non-social housing that's important and why the UK needs to get away from the stigma of renting...
