Moss Glen Falls

Moss Glen Falls

On my way up to Montréal I made it a point to take a small detour and check out Moss Glen Falls in Granville, VT (not Stowe — interesting, there is a Moss Glen Falls there as well). One of the prettiest sets of falls I've seen in New England, the main drop was a nice 30-foot horsetail. There were a lot of cool elements in the foreground that I wanted to include — tried to get a few of them without creating too much chaos in the image.

Sunrise over Montréal

Sunrise over Montréal

Bonjour, amis!

I spent this Memorial Day weekend north of the border in Montréal. Cool town; had a lot of fun just wandering around a new city. This is a view of downtown from the observation deck atop Mont Royal. Absolutely gorgeous view, and a perfect setting for a cityscape sunrise.

Under a Pier, a Sunset Over Boston

Under a Pier, a Sunset Over Boston

I spent this past weekend down in NJ, hanging with family. I wanted to get out to shoot a bit in Philadelphia, but I just didn't have it in me to get up early this time. Ah well.

Arrived back in Boston in the late morning on Sunday and promptly lied down for a much-needed nap. Basically did nothing the remainder of the day, but still feeling dejected from my lack of photography this weekend (and recently as a whole, really), I made a last-minute drive to nearby Quincy. I was treated to a beauty of a sunset, and this spot turned out to be a really interesting location. More trips here will have to take place; lots of interesting compositions could be had, I think.

Anyway, set the camera up in the water here under this pier with a view of Boston's iconic Hancock and Prudential towers in the distance. The near-summer skies are firing up lately. Gotta get out more.

Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse

Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse

Been nearly a month since I have been out shooting. Crazy how quickly time goes. I have been pretty busy, though, so I haven't even had the opportunity to be out with a camera anywhere. This past Saturday, however, I took advantage of the nice weather and spent the day in Portland, Maine, with Eric.

Most of the day was spent enjoying various cuisines, beers and coffee, with a short drive to the Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse in South Portland as the subject of a sunset shoot. The sun would be setting nearly 90° perpendicular to where I was standing here, so I was hoping for some night light and shadow play on this jetty. Unfortunately, the sun ducked behind a large cloud bank on the horizon and killed my plans. The result is not at all what I wanted, but it's all I've got to share. :)

Looking forward to catching up with everyone's work.

Fizzled Out Sunset in Gloucester

Fizzled Out Sunset in Gloucester

Here's one from last night. My buds Rich and Justin and I took a little jaunt to a spot in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The weather was looking terrific all day, and it really looked like it would be a stunner of a sunset. But that cloud bank appeared — the one that's finally going to bring a bunch of rain to the area (been in a drought lately up here) — and ruined it all. Sun ducked below it, and there was very little color left, aside from a tiny bit of faint pink along the horizon.

Still liked the composition I found. This gnarly radioactive-looking seaweed caught my attention pretty quickly. And even though sunset fizzled out, I thought the clouds and contrails in the sky were pretty cool. And in the end, I did add a bit of a red curve in post to help out the sky a bit.
