Reported by the Discovery Channel, Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival has become a world-famous event, as it celebrates the spreading and sharing of love and hope among people through the release of the sky lanterns. As the first of the 3-week series event of 2011 Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, the theme of the event held at Jingtong Elementary School is "Brilliant Heart, Maximum Hope".
2011 平溪天燈節，第一波放天燈活動2/6在菁桐國小舉行，主題是「精彩桐心，希望無限」。另外兩場分別為2/12在平溪國中與2/17在十分天燈廣場舉辦 ，有興趣的朋友歡迎前往參加。
