It is a great idea. How it is to be controlled to ensure the children actually get it not corrupt government officials will be a challenge.

I see so many things wrong with this. First of all there are hungry children lets feed them first. Two what if, for some unknown reason, all the world electronics stopped working or they are in a place where it doesn't work. They need to know the basics reading writing and arithmetic if they don't then what wait for a computer to appear somewhere.
I believe there are dangers in hooking kids up to the Internet, am I the only one here worried about that??? YOU DONT NEED A COMPUTER TO SURVIVE, just common knowledge. Let no child left behind without common knowledge. Computers won’t save the world people do and I banking on the fact that people will continue to work together.

Neat idea. Will these be satelite assessable? Hopefully, because I'm not sure some remote areas will be able to get the internet any other way.

I would not be for this, especially with all the Obama indoctrination stuff going on in some schools. Who's to say that some of these same computers don't have the same indoctrinal stuff on them or will in the future. I don't know. Little brains are sponges-PARENTS OF ALL NATIONS, BE AWARE! Pay attention to what your child is looking at, no matter what age they are. If something is not right or is just "a little bit off to you", then it is, don't question yourselves. That's what indoctrination is, something that just doesn't seem right, people sugar coating things and people trying to talk you into things and saying, things like, "this is the new way " or "We do things this way now " or even, " That's how I've always read it ".

If you did not hear about the song in the school where the principal made the elementry school children sing a song about President Obama while in school, whorshipping him and singing a polital song, just go onto your intranet or to foxnew.com and hear and see the video tape. When asking the principal why she refused to stop doing this type of thing in the school, she stated, "I think it's fine, It's Black history month, and I won't stop doing this".

Indoctrination is eveil, that's how Hitler's regieme was started and that IS the mentality that's starting in this country.

The thing I like most is "not our market" because I grew up watching companies grow huge from profits and then lose their personal value. Limiting OLPC program to using only open-source software is an important way to keep it personal, not controlled by a "software giant". Thank you!

I do believe this is a start with helping the education system, but it also needs parents and teachers to take time out to actually teach and assist the children in their care. You cannot just turn a child loose on a laptop and expect him to learn everything he/she needs to know. I mean yeah, he/she will be smart when it comes to specific things, but life is really not learned from a laptop either.

Great idea, in theory. America has sent billions of dollars to third world countries, to different continents and it seems all of it has made not much of a difference, especially in Africa. I say America needs to help her own people right now, especially in this economy. Have they at all considered how many American children don't have a laptop? I say America first and then whoever second IF we have the funds without becoming further in debt.

I think it's fantastic that children from all walks of life can be helped with this idea! Although, I also believe that we have a short time before a laptop and anything else for that matter will not matter or be of any use to anyone..it's freighting, but a very Real conclusion to all that we humans have done to this precious and beautiful planet of ours. It's too bad children that had nothing to do with it all, will suffer the consequences : (

I think this is an amazing Idea. In times like these people don't seem to do things for others that don't involve giving themselves something in return, other then happiness. If only there were more people who would do this kinda stuff
