Chan and the Big Dog

Chan and the Big Dog by OldhaMedia.
:::

Lunchtime.

36th and 8th.

Chan (a total stranger who struck up a conversation with me) saw my camera and asked me to take a picture of him in front of the very big dog in the truck.

Chan would not stop chewing, however.

Margot (my co-worker - not pictured) could not wrap her Seattle brain around the fact that I talk to strangers on the street.

The pigeons were a gift from the photo gods.

I've never been to New York - but this pic is my archetypal New York. GREAT street scene... what have you been offering to those photo gods?

ONLY in Manhattan. That's what makes the city great. It's all there, ready to be photographed. And who says you need a good camera? The ability to see what others would walk right by is what makes one a "talent." Excellent snap, dame du lac.

And just in case you were curious:

"Pigeons originally lived on the wild cliff faces of the European and Asian seacoasts. Used by the Chinese for hundreds of years to send messages they also carried money exchange rates between banks in Canton and Hong Kong. Pigeons have been used extensively for delivering messages in times of war. Early navigators took pigeons to sea in hopes that, if they became lost the pigeon would show them the way to land. Pigeons can fly for 550 miles in one day and can travel in bursts of speed up to 60 knots. They teach us how to preservere and keep our focus on the goal at hand.

This amazing bird holds the qualities of home, security and maternal instincts. Those with this totem often experience unsettling childhood's and will be challenged continually to acquire a solid secure foundation in all areas of their lives. The pigeon assists us in finding the stability of home that has been lost.

No matter where pigeon ends up or how it gets there, it knows the way home. The Pigeon's gift to us is the ability to accomplish. They do not get lost because they are in tune with the natural ways of earth, and are always aware of their goals. They use all their senses equally and navigate their lives in a balanced way. If Pigeon comes to you, it is asking you to keep your sights and sensitivities clearly set on where you want to be, and start moving. Even if you don’t know exactly how to get there, by following your inner guidance you can find your way."

Super shot! What a fortuitous capture! Very funny story and I'm surprised about your friend Margot's reaction to talking to strangers. Seattle seemed so friendly.

Ah, many thanks, gang!

Margot told me she was taught "never talk to strangers" and when Chan struck up a conversation and I continued it, she was at a loss for words.

It didn't stop Chan from giving her his phone number... even after he told us he was married and had NINE kids! (He asked for our numbers but we weren't going there...)

I can *smell* the hot dog vendor! (whom you didn't catch on the right)

Love that the pooch wasn't chewing, but Chan was.

I've had some fantastic conversations talking to strangers. The last one was about growing up in the small coastal town of Iceland.
I'm surprised the dog wasn't paying more attention to he pidgeons :)
another great grab Jolene

I love that he just really wanted his picture taken with a big dog. Didn't matter that he might never see it. It would just make him happy to know it existed somewhere.

I need to move to Manhattan. Seattle people are so insulated from each other. Guess it has to do with all the personal space we all think we require.

Fantastic shot!
