Horserace Experts Ripon 1977 (Kodachrome Scan)
30 year old slide (in poor shape) scanned and worked on because I've always loved the image and wanted one day to recover/restore it.
(There were 16, 834,763 individual dust spots and scratches on the slide. I got 93% of them, then my head hurt... but remember Psalm 100...)
These were four serious handicappers at the Ripon, Yorkshire race course, and I probably should have introduced myself and just bet their picks all day!
Notes: shot in Kodachrome 64 positive at 105mm on Pentax Spotmatic (unknown f/stop and shutter speed).

Jacket and tie - and where can you get a hat like that now! - Ah, the old Kodachrome - a bit red, but OK
Lovely shot of the times

30 years or 300 years - a great shot is a great shot - isn't it amazing the power of editing we have availbable to us today?!!!

Beautiful restoration. Wonderful decisive moment.

Cheers folks! I can actually still remember the day. As a Canadian, I was wowed by all the English race course traditions (including the champagne bars and trackside bookies with their hand signals, though I never did get a good shot of them).

Great picture, I think that it deserves a bit of PS ( you know that I love PS) in order to clear the background and enhance the incredible characters...

Shutter speed is 1/250, you can tell by the background, see how the people move, incidate a fast shutter but not very fast enough to capture it.
F/stop? we know it's a wide one so far.

Incredible. One of the best Kodachrome shots I've seen in a very long while.

I'm thinking it's oversaturated, but the comp is killer, and heck, it's film so stuff like that is charming, right?

ArchedRoof (49 months ago | reply)
Oh Jake... oversaturated?
That's part of what makes it so frigging lovely mate.
jakerome (49 months ago | reply)
I said it was charming b/c it was film. The clothes are fine, but the guys with the bright red faces... ouch! I prefer natural skin tones.

Little bit of English social history there. Seems pretty cool, I guess. I'm feeling mellow.

I like it. Perhaps even the original with scratches would be interesting if not better. Sometimes those add a bit of character to an old shot. ..
