Unique shearers kitchen, 2007

Unique shearers kitchen, 2007 by Museum of Australian Democracy at OPH.
Juanita WILSON, born 1972.

This sheep station’s kitchen walls are decorated with paintings by the station owner’s wife and a fellow artist. They remind the inhabitants of what the area looked like before the drought, and express an ever-present hope for rain. Photographer Juanita Wilson notes, ‘It was a unique space and seemed to bind the shearers, owners and managers in an understanding that we’re all in this together’.

Near Wilcannia, New South Wales.
