Sons and father, 2006

Sons and father, 2006 by Museum of Australian Democracy at OPH.
Michael COYNE, born 1945.

After the First World War, ex-servicemen were given land around Numurkah to develop for agriculture. Faced with declining farming prospects, their young descendants are now leaving the town. Consequently, over 65 per cent of the town’s population is aged over fifty-five.

This image is part of Michaels Coyne’s Village Series, through which he documents the impact of modernity, migration and globalism on villages around the world.

Numurkah, Victoria.
