Very nice (trick and photo). What are you
shooting with? What kind of continuous
shooting fps do you get? My current camera is
a prosumer point and shoot and I only get
1.5fps, which is kind of slow for stuff like this. I am looking at a Nikon D80 which gets
3fps. Wondering if that is going to be fast
enough or if I have to go for something
faster like the Nikon D200 which gets 5fps.

I think this was done with the d50 at 2.5
fps. I have a d70 also with 3 fps; but it is
still too slow to catch kickflips. Get the
d200 it should work. Note that you have to
have the high speed memory card to get the
max frame rate.

Maybe you already figured it out. When you
isolate the skater for the composite you also
have to isolate the shadow. This can be hard
to composite as the shadows overlap. If you
choose a blend mode of darken only the
darkest shadow will show through and look
realistic. Hopefully this helps.
