A life cut short

A life cut short by amyc500 (FamilyTrees).
From Kirkersville Cemetery, Kirkersville, Ohio.

Showing that not all "tree stump" tombstones are for members of Woodsmen of the World. They were also used to mark the graves of young people, symbolizing a life cut short.

I've seen many tree stumps that were not for Woodsmen. Actually the majority I've seen haven't specifically indicated that they were for a member of the organization. Some have been for young, old, and every age between.

Yes, to both of you; many faux wood monuments are not WoW. Faux wood monuments are also common to parts of Europe, where there is no WoW.

There's always this example of the non-WoW faux wood monument; got to be one of the best in the world:

DMT -- I love that... uh,.... tombstone? That doesn't like the right thing to call it :-)

I guess I should have clarified in my description -- I was posting this to show an acquaintence that not all tree stump stones are WOW markers. It was funny. We had just been talking about it and I found this tombstone the next day! I had to post it :-)

This is proving to me that you do indeed learn something new every day!
I love all the facets to the art of gravestones, headstones, tombstones...or whatever they may be!

Buttons -- Thanks for the comment and the fave!

Tombstones are fascinating, aren't they? Almost everytime I go to a cemetery, I find something new.
