Revenge of the Hippies
Another goal for this year is to "kill fewer polar bears." and one of our big steps is trying to greatly reduce the amount of plastic bags we use/waste. We have been collecting a stash of these reusable bags that seem to be everywhere now and are finally getting in the habit of actually bringing them to the stores with us. It feels weird to hand the grocery clerk a pile of these when they ask "paper or plastic" especially after years of deriding the dirty hippies in Santa Cruz and their soiled canvas sacks. Just another of the many "never say never" examples in my life....
Anyway, these bags kick ass and the bagger seemed to get a kick out of loading them up (and actually did a much more thoughtful job than usual.) We also fit the entire $170 shopping trip into 5 bags which made the trip up from the garge MUCH easier. Commentsandrewcarle says:Jodi and I have been using our motley
collection of bags - lots of KQED canvas
totes, some bags from school and even a
monster blue IKEA bag. And, frankly, I now
have a new appreciation for the standard
supermarket bag design. Sigh.
