My grandfather was stationed In Japan at the end of WWII as a civil engineer. He helped rebuild towns and roads and things that had been destroyed or fell into disrepair during the years of the war.
It was the wonderful stories my grandfather told me about his times in Japan that made me fall in love Japan. He told me about the beautiful places he saw, the nice people he met and how much he enjoyed helping Japan rebuild after WWII.
This is the only photo that has survived from his time in Japan. I think it is Kofukuji in Nara. But I am not certain.
My grandfather past away a few years ago and every time I see this photo I think of him. If it wasn't for his stories and all the time we shared together I may have never gone to Japan myself and have my own wonderful stories to share.
