CapitalOne Waste

I'm glad they protected all of this paper with some bubble-wrap!
Here's the answer! De-personalize everything, and mail back the rest! Let them put it in their landfill, after they pay to have it sent back. That's what I do.
CapitalOne Waste by Ocell.
CapitalOne sent me this 9.5" x 6" package to try to get me to sign up for one of their credit cards. I know we all get several of these a day in some cases.

I'm just increasingly amazed at the amount of waste these companies will pump into landfills. What pushed me over the edge was the inclusion of a square of bubble-wrap to give the package bulk , and make it seem like there was an object inside. However, there was nothing but several slips of paper.

Does CapitalOne really think I'm going to want to do business with them after deceptive and wasteful actions like these? It's like how spammers fill the subject line with H4X0R language to bypass spam filters. Do these companies not realize that they lose credibility?

I understand the industry built around direct mailing, but as our culture becomes more sensitive to waste and responsibility in our consumption, I hope these companies will catch up, or be held accountable when they don't.

For the meat space tangible items, my advice is to put all this into the pre-paid envelope and send it back to them.

Sadly, there is no electronic variation on this theme that I've come across.

GMTA, qthrul! I've been doing that for about a year now. Same with the blow-in cards for magazines, especially the ones I subscribe to. Why send me 5 cards to subscribe, when I already do???

You can click here to opt out of many of these credit card offers. I did this a couple of years ago and now I pretty much only get essential mail.

I also mail back the junk in the enclosed envelope hoping to raise the advertising costs of direct mail. Not sure if it works but at least the postal service is making some extra money.

As a person of the "retiring generation" I have been mailing back junk mail advertisements every time they include a postage paid envelope. Maybe I need to try a different tactic because they still keep coming!!!

Wouldn't it be nice of they kept the mail and saved the cash?........maybe lower interest rates instead of making the public pay for their ads. Its not like anyone in the free world has never heard of them.

We gets several a week ourselves.
