The OLPC

That's some neat green/vert(e).

This is the One Laptop Per-Child, or OLPC. I didn't realize that it had a camera built in. The unit looked and felt very substantial. It was great to get my hands on a product that I've been reading about for so long.

The keyboard certainly isn't setup for 120wpm touch typing, but it looks completely water/dust proof, probably an appropriate concession for third-world children.

I think the screen does limited color, and the camera was black and white. Or the screen might switch modes... the specs:

# Mono display: High-resolution, reflective monochrome mode
# Color display: Standard-resolution, quincunx-sampled, transmissive color mode

awesome. funny you didn't notice that it had a camera, that part stuck in my brain when I read the NYT Magazine article about this machine, back in the day... maybe because my much-more-expensive machine has no such amenity.
