Black Point SAS Image
Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) imagery of the Black Point, a a 337-foot steel collier that was sunk off the coast of Rhode Island by the German U-853 submarine on May 5, 1945. The imagery, collected as part of partnership technology demonstration between the NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration and Research and Kraken Robotics, shows that the hull, including the bow, of the ship is largely intact and rests upside down on the seafloor.
