each ... like Bush's election-card "chads" ;
marks in stone the actions of a mind void of all concern or thought:
tell of the birth
tell how war appeared on earth
thunder and herbs

violence completes the partial mind

Strong message and shot. There is one more message here: if you take action based on a pack of lies, then no one will believe your "intelligence" for a second similar action. (This is a lesson I am currently trying to teach my 8-year-old.)

.alton - did Osama Bin Laden kill these American soldiers? or did President Bush put them in an untenable position in a 'war' that we never should have started? freedom on the march or delusions of empire?

- and is this the place for your 'points' to be made?

@alton: You have a point. And that's why it's such a travesty that Bush diverted his attention from the mass-murderer Bin Laden to go on his fool's errand in Iraq.

And Yes, make your points here. It's a helluva lot intersting than the swarms of annoying pretty pictures that do the rounds on Flickr.
What exactly does everyone here know of Osama Bin laden that hasn't been fed to them by the media?

Deborah, being anti-war under all circumstances is simply irrational. One can't be both against Hitler and the means to stop him. Standing by and allowing evil is itself an evil. We're fortunate to have had men who'll do that job and they're deserving of honor.
Posted 44 months ago. ( permalink )

view profile

Thomas Boblett  Pro User  says:

there are some who say Hitler could have been stopped before there was only a military solution left available. some say there were business decisions made that allowed him to build the infrastructure to create his massive war machine. some of those business decisions were made in America. some say that profiting from those decisions is an evil in itself. that's just what some people say. and to say that George Bush is the moral equivalent to FDR in any circumstance is lunacy. starting a war against evil doers was a political decision made by self-serving people, some of whom nobody got to vote for or against. some people think that's wrong. and i agree.

menlo  Pro User  says:

To say that Hitler 'could' have been stopped says nothing about what the options were later--unless standing around pointing fingers counts as a response.

On a separate topic you mention those who profited by working with Hitler. That's precisely what the UN's Oil for Food scandal allowed Saddam Hussein to accomplish.

In his day it was charged that Roosevelt wanted to go to war before Pearl Harbor and despite the fact that no Germans attacked Pearl Harbor we attacked them--what's with that? About voting for war--congress does that, just as in Roosevelt's day.

Thomas Boblett  Pro User  says:

again you liken Saddam Hussein to Hitler... was he marching through Europe? what does bringing up the fact that many wealthy Americans become more wealthy in this current fiasco have to do with anything? i understand this is a pointless arguement against the right wing talking points that say we are safer now. Congress hasn't declared war since WWII. they abdicated their authority to the President in this case. and look where that got us. of course he didn't pursue diplomatic solutions or actually use the UN except when it suited his purposes as he had said he would do to Congress. you're somehow saying that America's role in this 'war' is similar to it's role in WWII against Hitler. can you possibly be serious?

menlo  Pro User  says:

The United States engaged in 12 years of diplomacy with Iraq. Every member country of the UN Security Council agreed that Iraq was a problem that needed to be dealt with.

Hitler killed 6 million Jews, Saddam Hussein killed nearly 3 million Iraqis. Your point?
Posted 44 months ago. ( permalink )

view profile

Thomas Boblett  Pro User  says:

3 million iraqis? where does that come from? does that include the iraqis we told to rise up in revolt and then left hanging? that was your neocons that told them that. 12 years of diplomacy? what is your definition of diplomacy? iraq was a problem that needed to be dealt with. it didn't need to be over-run and occupied. i don't think everyone agreed on that. you must mean the coalition.... oh that's right. that shrunk down to us and england.. and they probably won't last much longer. they regret that decision too i think and have said up front they won't back military action in iran already. anyway. this is a pointless argument. you have your set of beliefs and won't be shaken.. and your arguments have no meaning to me. do you like the world your beloved 'leaders' are creating with their warring tendencies? do you like the world that will be left to your children and grandchildren. i fear for them. they are facing a very harsh time ahead because of the policies that are being implemented by these people. and i don't know how that can be changed any more. so best of luck to you. i'm done here.

Menlo and Michael.. don't you think half a trillion dollars could have been spent in better, more constructive ways rather than the systematic deconstruction and attempted reconstruction of a single country? Imagine what that money could have done in Africa or how it could have fostered friendships in the middle east, Asia, etc. What diseases could have been cured? Imagine the global warming initiatives it would pay for. Instead you have nothing but mistrust and death.
