Caillebotte's Ladies Wear Hats

Caillebotte's Ladies Wear Hats by Trish Mayo.
Gustave Caillebotte (French, 1848–1894). Roses in the Garden at Petit Gennevilliers, 1886. Oil on canvas, 35 1/16 x 45 11/16 in. (89 x 116 cm). Private collection

Caillebotte supervised the planting of elaborate gardens on his property at Petit Gennevilliers and corresponded with Claude Monet about horticulture. Monet had his extensive garden at Giverny. The woman in the painting has been identified as Charlotte Berthier, Caillebotte’s companion.

Strangely, the attire of the two women make the painting pale in comparison. One could almost write a novel about them! Wonderful indeed!

Very nice, that's the way to visit a museum. Like stepping back in time.
