44/365 - Go Go Power Ranger!!! by oblivion9999.
Unboxing of my new Olympia Phantom riding suit from Moto Liberty in Texas.

Dorky, but safe, warm, and waterproof. The photos do not do justice to the brightness of this thing, but being seen is key.

Yeah, I used to think the helmet was bright. It's dull next to the neon! "Honey, I need a new helmet now!"

With my vast experience of one month of riding, I can say for sure my next jacket will be hi-viz yellow like yours, rather than gray like the one I have.

Looking dorky is better than looking dead.

Jim, these are the lessons best learned the easy way, unfortunately they rarely sink in without firsthand experience.

You look cool in a black helmet and black leather jacket on a blacked out ride right up to the point that you're either under an Escalade or crapping your pants from NEARLY being under an Escalade.

I'm amazed I've survived over 10 years on the streets. Commutes are especially hairy. I've written or podcasted about many close calls.

Ride like you're invisible, because you are.

Edit to add: Instead of waiting until you get a new jacket, you can up your odds by donning an orange highway safety vest. It's a cheaper option and can be ditched (if desired) on poseur days, track days, or group rides where you're not solo and you care about how you look (none of the preceding is meant to imply that is how I or JimNtexas thinks, I'm just throwing it out there). You can also dress up a drab helmet with reflective tape or stickers, but check the helmet manufacturers' recs on that one. Some may void the warranty.
