'tis the season...

... to blow all your money on electricty lighting up the neighbourhood ;-) A nearby dead-end street in Redwood City where the folks go nuts with Christmas lighting. These strands run up to a tree hanging over the street - some 30ft+ in the air.

Hey, isn't this St. Mary's Place in Friendly Acres, Redwood City? The cul de sac puts on a really cool light show at Christmas time.

What's up with the map label??? "Trailer Villa Mobile Home Park"??? Clearly the neighborhood labels for Redwood City have gone haywire. I had same mapping issue / same label on one of my photos for a different part of Redwood City too. Would love to drop a line to someone to fix it - but not sure who to - Yahoo Maps? Flickr?

  8. (nz)dave (78 months ago | reply)

@bea - yes it is! And I dropped a note about the naming issue over here: flickr.com/forums/bugs/29641/. You might like to add yours too :)

Thanks everyone for the kind words and faves.

@Rinaldo - yes - this did it for me too. I was actually on the way home and stopped at the market across the road from this street - and thought why not wander down there and try some shots.
I took a bunch of shots of houses and displays and nothing struck me as great - as I was about to leave I stuck the camera up against the tree, pointed it along the line of lights and snapped. My favorite shot of the bunch! :)

We have some crazy christmas light folks around the corner from our house too. Actually, they keep their lights up year round. I call it the circus house. I like the sweep curve of lights. So long as they pay their bill, it's ok to be festive! ;)

I like the way the lights focus (I suppose it's unfocus really) into those definite shapes as they get close! great - they should have them in the trailer park too!

This is cool! Interesting how the lights form hexagons.

    Merry Christmas!

  39. fotogail (78 months ago | reply)

yeah -- it's the hexacons and blurs -- is the word bokuh?
    very eye-catching.

  40. (nz)dave (78 months ago | reply)

@dm144 - yup - those hexagons are reflecting the shape of the diaphragm in the 50mm f/1.4 AIS lens I was using. If you view the original size you'll also notice the smallest of lights off in the distance has a hexagonal outline :)
