This photo was taken not on any street in Korea but on the mysterious road that appears when the sea parts between Jindo and Modo Islands. We almost got to Modo when the police asked everyone to turn back as the sea reclaimed the road. As we headed back to Jindo, I turned and saw this couple. They were laughing as they looked through photos in the camera. With many people walking past and more collecting seaweed and abalone, it was like they were in a world of their own. I quickly took a shot and rejoined my group sloshing onto dry land. I don’t know who they are or what they’re thinking of but that moment when they smiled at each other is simply beautiful.

Hanji lantern. I stayed warm and dry in the apartment while outside it snowed like it was the middle of winter.
