Design/Build
Counseling unit partitions constructed
by AFHny Design team to provide the
Social Work team with privacy.
Materials: reclaimed wood doors, clad in
copper flashing, blackboard + magnetic
paint, and cork.
Phase 2
Medical Area Renovation
Care for the Homeless (CFH), a
non-profit which provides medical
services to at-risk populations,
received a small federal grant to
renovate a 500 square foot medical
facility within the basement of the
Broadway Presbyterian Church in
Morningside Heights, Manhattan. The
space is shared by multiple homeless
outreach services which are provided by
the church and operated by a non-profit
called Broadway Community Incorporated
(BCI).

charitable organization founded to seek
architectural and design solutions to
humanitarian crises and to provide
design services to communities in need.

This renovation was made possible by
the donation of time and material by
countless people and organizations,

Care For the Homeless
Founded in 1984, CARE FOR THE HOMELESS,
a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization,
improves the health and well-being of
homeless men, women and children by
promoting healthful behaviors and
providing medical, behavioral, social
and shelter services. CFH advocates for
the rights of homeless people and for
public policies which support stable
individuals, families and communities,
and aim to end homelessness.
Broadway Community Inc
114th + Broadway
Broadway Community, Inc. (BCI), was
founded in 1992 as a 501(c)(3), upon the
humble foundations of a soup kitchen
that had been operating for ten years
out of the basement of Broadway
Presbyterian Church located on the Upper
West Side of Manhattan.
