Kiveton Colliery (Yorkshire Coalfield)

    Sinking at Kiveton Park began on June 6th 1866. The Barnsley seam was reached on December 5th 1867 at a distance of 405 yards from the surface and deepened to the Thorncliffe at 669 yards in 1884.
    In 1896 another shaft was sunk adjacent to the Barnsley and connected to it. For ventilation purposes the shaft was sunk to the Silkstone seam at a depth of 733 yards. Coal production from the High Hazel seam commenced from this shaft in 1900. The seam is 310 yards from the surface.
    A drift from the Clowne seam was started in 1974 and completed in 1977, the drift was used for man riding and materials.
