He's 2 and a half, and he was a stray. However, I think he must've had a home before that, because when they found him, he'd already been neutered and microchipped - and besides, he's a total lovebug. The shelter I got him from (PAWS) made sure he had all his shots, got his teeth cleaned, and put him into foster care to re-socialize. He was super shy at the shelter, but I had a feeling he'd be happy with me...and so far it seems like I was right - he's already emerged from under the couch, and he's been exploring the whole place, and begging for petting. He even got on my lap once! :)

oh wow! that's great! i think a lot of times they're a bit depressed at shelters. scully was totally like that at the shelter but as soon as i got her home, she just wanted to be petted (well, and just pretend that the orange kitty in the other room didn't even exist).

I'm noticing a few themes in names I like: (1) I like people names, and (2) The more geek backstory I can construct to the name, the better.

That said, here's a few I've been considering (in no particular order):

Thomas Jefferson

James (or maybe James Beard, James Madison...)
Stephen
Alfred

Right at the moment, I'm really liking Fred or Alfred, but that's just right at the moment...
