Skar abandoned military camp
At the head of Maridalen, north of Oslo, is a 200 acres site with empty buildings. There are former Skar camp behind the enclosure. A mix of residences, office buildings and warehouses are left. The history of military construction started around 1860's when a private gunpowder works were bought by the military. Gunpowder production stopped here in 1894. Between 1910 and 1940 the area used for winter and summer training for military schools in the Oslo area. During the war years were several large buildings erected by the Germans for repairs and maintenance of anti-aircraft guns.
