St George, Hardingham, Norfolk

On the 20th of August 1916, Geoffrey Stephen Walley, the only son of the Rector of Hardingham, was killed in the Battle of the Somme. The cross which originally marked his grave is now on display at the back of the church. This shell case, returned from High Wood to Hardingham, was used in the battle which killed him. It is still in use in the church as a vase. Walley's memorial is up in the chancel.
