St Andrew, Rushmere St Andrew, Ipswich

Colonel George Philip Brudenell Sherard, Judge Advocate General, Madras Army, Died 27th November 1885, aged 63 years.
Also Robert Castel Sherard, Captain, Madras State Corps, Eldest son of the above, who died at Suakim, Egypt, 13th February 1886, aged 35 years.
Also of Colonel GPR Sherard, died at Madras 20th January 1880, aged 57 years.

The medieval parish church of Rushmere St Andrew sits in the northern suburbs of the town of Ipswich, not far from open countryside. Although the tower is essentially 15th century, the rest of the building is from two more recent centuries. First of all, Edward Hakewill rebuilt the nave, chancel and north aisle in 1861. Then, the church was spectacularly extended eastwards in 1968 by the architect George Pace. The altar remains in its original position, so that the seats in Pace's extension face westwards. It is the only Anglican church in Suffolk with a central altar.
